Abstract

The use of multimedia is known as one of a good way in teaching. Multimedia provides audio visual that can attract the students to focus on the learning materials and help them in learning process. The multimedia also helps the teacher to deliver the lesson and make interesting activities in the classroom. Even though many statement about the benefits about teaching using multimedia, but there are limited research about the use of multimedia in Pontianak city about the teacher preparation and implementation in teaching using multimedia, whether it is already good to make the teaching learning more meaningful and easier to be understood by the learner. From that case, the researcher investigated the teacher preparation and implementation in teaching learning English by using multimedia on SMP Immanuel Pontianak Academic Year 2011/2012.The method used in this research was case study. The case in this research was the implementation of multimedia in teaching English by English teachers of SMP Immanuel Pontianak. The populations of this research are the English teachers of SMP Immanuel Pontianak that consist of three teachers. The sample from population in this research is two English teachers of SMP Immanuel Pontianak, which are the teacher A and B that teaches in first and second grade of SMP Immanuel Pontianak Academic year 2011/2012.In order to investigate teachers’ preparation and teaching learning activities by using multimedia, the writer used interview and observation checklist in gathering the information related to this issue. Then the data were analyzed and organized in data reduction and data display. In data reduction step the data were reduced into manageable data then tabulated and coded in data display.Based on the analysis, the preparation of teaching by using multimedia is very important. In preparation stage, the teacher can select the appropriate multimedia that will be used in teaching learning. The teacher also can organize the materials from several sources in to manageable and interesting form to catch the students attention.A good preparation will help the teachers in implementation stages. In the implementation stages, the teachers need to decide the activities while teaching using multimedia to make the teaching learning fun and meaningful.
