Abstract

This research is focused on the analysis reading materials of EnglishTextbook ”Look Ahead” for Senior High School of Tenth Grade StudentsPublished by PT. Erlangga.The problem of this research is to get clear description about readingmaterials in this textbook fulfill as good reading materials or not. The aim of thisresearch is to know reading materials in this textbook categorized as good readingmaterials or not.There was single variable concerned to be described, the analysis on readingmaterials of English Textbook “Look Ahead” for Senior High School of TenthGrade students published by PT. Erlangga. In collecting the data, the writer wasimplement content analysis. Content analysis in this research is the writer analysisthe data according to good reading materials criteria by Patel and Jain. The tool ofdata collecting was checklist table. The population of this research was 27 readingmaterials and the sample of this research was 10 reading materials.Based on the findings of the research, the reading materials in EnglishTextbook “Look Ahead” for Senior High School of Tenth Grade studentspublished by PT. Erlangga fulfill as good reading materials based on goodreading materials criteria by Patel and Jain. The first criteria of good readingmaterials by Patel and Jain mentioned that the subject matter should be wellgraded. In this textbook, the reading materials designed from simple topic ofreading text until to difficult topic. The redaing materials in this textbook wassuitable with the syllabus. The second criteria mentioned that the words andstructure are carefully graded. In this textbook, the difficult words and structureinput in front of the topic. So before the students learn the materials, they canunderstand well the structure and difficult words given. And then the last criteriamentioned that clear and unambiguous instruction should be given along side thepractise and exercise. In this textbook, all of the practice instruction and exerciseinstruction was given clear and unambiguous.Related to the finding above, this research concludes that reading materialson English Textbook “Look Ahead” for Senior High School of Tenth GradeStudents Published by PT. Erlangga fulfill as god reading materials.
