Abstract
This research is about the use of Dictogloss technique in teaching narrative text writing to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012. The purpose of conducting this research is to investigate the effectiveness of using dictogloss technique in teaching narrative text writing to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012. The form of this research is pre-experimental study. The data had been collected by using measurement technique. The tool of data collecting was a written test, in which the students were asked to write a narrative text by the help of using Dictogloss. The sample of this research were 27 students from Class XI IPA 2. The finding of this research shows that the mean score of pre-test was 57.46 and the mean score of post test was 72.48. It showed that there was a significant increase thus the use of Dictogloss technique in teaching narrative text writing is effective. The score of t-test (4.6) was higher than t-table (2.056) on the level significance 5%. As the result, the Alternative Hypothesis using Dictogloss Technique In Teaching Narrative Text Writing to the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 4 Pontianak in Academic Year 2011/2012 is effective was accepted. Based on the calculation, it also shows that the score of Effect Size is 0.81. It indicates that the effect of Dictogloss technique in teaching narrative text is highly effective
