Abstract

This research aims to determine how the Busuu application as a media for teaching phrasal verbs was effective for students when taught to students in Class X Mia 3 at SMAN 1 Sungai Raya. This research method focused on Pre-Experimental research in one class. The population in this research was 420 students in the SMAN 1 Sungai Raya and the sample was X Mia 3 students with a total of 35 students. The data was obtained from pre-test and post-test. The pre-test, treatment, and post-test procedures were used by the author as part of the data collection technique. After analyzing the data with statistical formula, the author concluded that the use of the Busuu Application as a media in teaching was effective in enhancing students’ scores. This was evidenced by students’ pre-test and post-test scores of average score, and percentage, the result of the t-test was 8,74, and the result of the t-table. The result showed that students’ scores of phrasal verbs enhanced after giving the treatment 2 times using the Busuu Application. The mean score from the pre-test was 67,51 and increased to 79,65 from the post-test. This result shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. This means that the use of the Busuu application as media increases the score of phrasal verbs of students in X Mia 3 in SMAN 1 Sungai Raya.
