Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the factors that caused the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department not to seek the management of the Taman Eria nature tourism in Nyarumkop Subdistrict, Singkawang Timur District. There was no role from the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department of Singkawang City to seek the management of the Taman Eria natural tourism. Moreover, there was no private party that had taken the advantage of the Taman Eria natural tourism. The research focus of this study was the role of the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department in seeking the management of the Taman Eria nature tourism in Nyarumkop Subdistrict, Singkawang Timur District. This study used a descriptive research design with a qualitative approach. The techniques of data collection were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data validity test used triangulation, specifically source triangulation techniques and technical triangulation. This study used Muljadi and Warman’s theory (2016:087) which discussed the steps of the government in in achieving tourism success. The results of this study showed that From the aspect of Increasing Mass Media Development, the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department of Singkawang City had not been able to invite the mass media and had not been able to promote the Taman Eria nature tourism, because water from the Eria river is a source of clean water for the Nyarumkop residents. From the aspect of Improving Development of Community Organizations, specifically, the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department of Singkawang City did not show responsibility as a good government, to promote regional tourism, by seeking the creation of tourism management. Lastly, from the aspect of Increasing the Development of the Local Economic Unit, the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department could not provide guidance or an invitation to the local economic unit for efforts to manage the Taman Eria, because Eria was not an official tourist spot and there was no permit from the government to conduct tourism activities. The researcher suggests that the Singkawang City Government through the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department needs to try to find a solution to make the Taman Eria natural tourism an official tourist spot without affecting the clean water sources for the community. So that all parties can take advantage of the potential that exists in that Taman Eria natural tourism.
