Abstract

This research was aimed to find the students’ needs and to design a supplementary material to teach writing procedure text in PowerPoint for Twelfth Grade students of SMAN 1 Lumar. This research was Research and Development (R&D). In conducting this research, the researcher was used the three phases of ADDIE namely analyzing, designing, and developing which called ADD. The participants of this research were an English teacher and the twelfth grade students which consisted of 21 students of SMAN 1 Lumar. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaire, interview, and internal evaluation. The first step in conducting this research was the analysis phase which the researcher collected the data used questionnaire for the students and interview sheet for the teacher. The questionnaire was analyzed by using percentage, and the interview was analyzed by using thematic analysis. The result of needs analysis showed that the students needed various contents of procedure text which could be design in PowerPoint to help the students learn writing skill of procedure text. After getting the students’ needs, the researcher designed and developed the product into PowerPoint. To evaluate the product design, the researcher has created close-ended questionnaire of Liker-scale for internal evaluation which has done by the supervisor. For the result of internal evaluation, a design of supplementary materials of procedure text in PowerPoint had good score for all the criteria of material and media. In conclusion, the design of supplementary material of procedure text in PowerPoint was appropriate to implement.
