Abstract
Pengembangan serat alami sebagai penguat material komposit sangat baik dikarenakan ketersediaan bahan baku serat alami di Indonesia cukup melimpah dan pengembangan industri komposit di Indonesia guna mencari bahan komposit alternatif. Dalam penelitian ini dipilih serat buah bintaro (Cerbera manghas) untuk pembuatan komposit. dikarenakan buah bintaro belum banyak dimanfaatkan sehingga dapat dimanfaatkan menjadi bahan pengisi dari komposit. Karena buah bintaro mempunyai serat lignoselulosa yang menyerupai buah kelapa. dengan menggunakan bahan penguat (reinforcement) dan resin polyester yukalac 157 BQTN menjadi matrik pengikatnya serta katalis mepoxe sebagai pengeras resin. Hasil dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan, resin polyester diberikan penguat berupa serat buah bintaro dengan fraksi volume 10% 20% dan 30% serta serat diberi perlakuan alkali NaOH 5% dengan variasi lama perlakuan 2 jam, 4 jam dan tanpa perlakuan dan melakukan uji mekanis (uji tarik dan uji regangan) dan uji fisis uji kerapatan (Density). Pengujian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh orientasi serat dan lama perlakuan alkali terhadap kekuatan komposit serat buah bintaro. Dengan mendapatkan kekuatan terbaik pada uji kekuatan tarik yaitu pada fraksi volume 30% dengan perlakuan alkali 2 jam (22,87 MPa), uji regangan yaitu fraksi volume 20% dengan lama perlakuan alkali 2 jam (0,062 mm/mm), uji kerapatan yaitu fraksi volume 30% dengan 2 jam perlakuan alkali (2,158 gr/cm3). Kata kunci : Buah bintaro, NaOH, uji fisis, uji mekanis, komposit.; The development of natural fiber as a reinforcement for composite materials is very good due to the availability of natural fiber raw material in indonesia which is quite abundant and the development of the composite industry in Indonesia to seek alternative composite materials. In this study, bintaro fruit fiber (Cerbera manghas) was selected for the manufacture of composites. Because bintaro fruit has not been widely used so that it can be used as a filler for composites. Because bintaro fruit has lignocellulosic fibers that resemble coconuts. By using reinforcement and yukalac 157 BQTN polyester resin as the binding matrix and mepoxe as a resin hardener as a catalyst. The results of the research that has been done, the polyester resin was given a reinforcement in the form of Bintaro fruit fiber with a volume fraction of 10% 20% and 30% and the fiber was treated with 5% NaOH alkali with variations in the length of treatment 2 hours, 4 hours and without treatment and carried out mechanical tests ( tensile test and strain test) and physical test of density test (Density). This test aims to determine the effect of fiber orientation and duration of alkali treatment on the strength of Bintaro fruit fiber composites. By getting the best strength in the tensile strength test, namely the volume fraction of 30% with 2 hours of alkali treatment (22.87 MPa), strain test of 20% volume fraction with 2 hours of alkali treatment (0.062 mm/mm), density test that is fraction volume 30% with 2 hours of alkaline treatment (2.158 g/cm3).
